When it comes to standards put forth by the ELA I feel as though I am best equiped to implement and accomplish standard LAFS.1112.W.2.6. Simply put this standard refers to the ability to use the internet as a resource for acquiring information and then using said acquisition to improve upon priory made work. The reason I believe I would be particularly well equipped for completing such a task is that it is a skill that I myself make avid use of, and as such teaching would simply be illustrating how to do so for my students. Thus, I believe that accomplishing the standards is simply a matter of being able to do them myself.
The particular resource that I find the most intriguing and useful would be that of the Khan Academy video Thinking like a Historian. My reasoning for picking this particular piece is two fold, firstly unlike many other resources it is about a particular skill rather than a historical event or figure, which I believe to be more directly useful to the students than the later. The second reason or my choice is that it fully demonstrates what I wish to accomplish with my teaching, creation of students who may holistically analyze history and the world as the result of many interconnected systems rather than a random collection of events. Thus, this is the one resource that I see myself the most likely in using in my upcoming educational career.
Internet searching is an important skill simply for the fact that as our lives become ever more dependent upon our ability to communicate and interact with the digital world it becomes ever more necessary that we can get the most of the situation that we find ourselves. Of the skills demonstrated within the class this week, I find the reverse image search to be the most useful tool as it provides users and students with the most unique searching ability. Barring access to someone with specific knowledge on the topic, often a picture can be a dead end when it comes to trying to learn something. As for skills of my own that I did not see represented in the course I would like to propose the idea of purposefully incorrect searching. This works by providing answer or statement that the user knows is patently incorrect, and using the need of others to correct blatantly false information to find the correct answer.
Thank you for your suggestion about purposefully incorrect searching. Great idea! A friend of mine is actually conducting research in this area, specifically exploring how adolescents search for medical/health information and how they evaluate the information (or misinformation).
